I came into contact with Spoons 8 years ago after my daughter Phoebe Hope was born at 24+5 weeks, weighing a tiny 1lb 8oz in Oldham NICU.
Unfortunately our first contact was not for support during my stay on NICU, but instead for support in setting up donations at Phoebe’s funeral after she passed away at 7 days old.
Since that first day of contact with Spoons, I have been naturally supported during my grieving journey whilst allowing me to focus my energy into fundraising and helping at events to ensure others continue receiving everything Spoons has to offer.
I was able to access private trauma therapy funded by Spoons which changed my life completely and I genuinely don’t know where I would be today if I hadn’t of received that.
Spoons saved my life and that’s why I have joined #Team79!
This is the annual 79 Day Challenge set up by another parent, Shaun Adams, who’s twins spent 79 days in neonatal care. Every year, volunteers commit to taking on 79 days of consecutive activity – running, walking, weight-lifting, anything that feels like a personal challenge. This year, I’m taking part with my mum, to raise vital funds for Spoons and to remember our beautiful Phoebe.

If you’ve experienced a bereavement, or you’re navigating a challenging time in neonatal care, reach out to our team here, and they we’ll go through the support we can offer to you and your family.
