Volunteering for Spoons

We are very lucky to have a team of fantastic volunteers and trustees at Spoons. They volunteer their time and use their skills and experiences to help our families and keep the charity running. You could say they are the heartbeat of our organisation!

We have volunteer neonatal peer supporter and volunteer trustee opportunities available. If you feel you have the relevant skills and experience, why not think about applying to join Team Spoons?

Volunteer Peer Supporters

Spoons neonatal peer support is delivered on the neonatal unit by parents who have had lived experience of neonatal care.

The role of a volunteer peer supporter will requires some skills and experience, including:

• Lived experience of neonatal care as a parent or carer
• Good active listening skills and empathy
• An ability to commit to at least two hours per week
• Good time management skills
• Basic IT and administration skills
• Confidence to communicate with a diverse range of people, including neonatal parents and health professionals

All our volunteer peer supporters receive peer support training and are required to complete a series of e-learning modules.

Trustees

Becoming a trustee is a rewarding role. It means you can do something worthwhile without having to commit lots of your time.

It is a strategic role that will require specific skills and experience, including:

• Senior level strategic management experience within a third sector organisation,
  ideally a charity
• Recent experience (within the last 5 years) of fundraising for, or in, a third sector
  organisation
• Experience at senior level of financial management, ideally within a charity
• A professional qualification and significant practitioner experience in an area of
  relevance to Spoons such as charity law, project or programme management
• Knowledge and experience of marketing or public relations in the third sector
• Experience as a trustee in a similar size or larger organisation, together with
  implementation of best practice in corporate governance
