Shaun and Lauren Adams created the Seventy Nine Club back in 2021, following the birth of their twin daughters who were born prematurely and spent time in neonatal care. After receiving the devastating news that one of their girls needed open heart surgery, they found strength in community and positivity.

Now in its 5th year, the challenge was born out of adversity, and brings together generous supporters willing to take on 79 days of continuous activity to raise vital funds towards Spoons’ essential services for families experiencing neonatal care.

Shaun (now a Trustee of the charity) and Lauren (a dedicated peer support volunteer), are calling on people to get involved in the challenge to help raise over £15,000 for other families facing a NICU experience.

Launching the challenge for 2024, Shaun said:

By joining the Seventy Nine Club, you’re not only raising money for an incredible cause, you’re challenging yourself to move out of your comfort zone with 79 consecutive days of activity. The 79 represents the number of days we spent in hospital with our little one.

It started out as a running challenge – running every single day, for at least 20 minutes, for 79 days. But you don’t have to run, some people choose to walk, or you can wheel, skate, or even lift weights, the choice is yours.

Talking about his motivation for the fundraising, he said:

Spoons offers support for parents during and after NICU. I’ve personally benefited from their services and have come out the other side forever stronger. As a Trustee for the charity now, I see firsthand how important Spoons’ services are for families who have a neonatal experience. The service is vital, and the funds raised through the Seventy Nine Club this year will make a huge difference when people need it most.

We start on 30th November, and will be active every single day, even Christmas Day, until 16th February 2025. Will you join us, or make a small donation?
